A membership with the Freiwerk is required to use the workshop facilities and participate in most activities. Additional fees may apply for specific workshop bookings, machine use, courses, or events. Memberships renew automatically each year unless cancelled at least one month in advance.

Pricing options

Standard Annual Membership – CHF 60 / year
This is the regular membership fee. It includes basic access to the community and the workshop, with further usage fees for specialized tools or paid programs.

Reduced Membership for Low-Income Members – CHF 30 / year
A discounted rate for people with limited financial means (students, jobseekers, others), based on fair self-assessment rather than formal eligibility checks.

Supporter Membership – Flexible amount
A voluntary higher contribution above the standard CHF 60 to support the workshop and subsidise others. Members choose their own annual amount.

To work independently in any of the specialised workshop areas (wood, metal, sewing, photography, etc.) you must first attend a brief introductory session for that specific workshop. In addition to workshop introductions, Freiwerk regularly publishes one-off courses, cultural events, and specialised workshops (e.g., multi-hour creative sessions, craft workshops). Pricing for these is usually specific to the event and listed on the programme calendar.
