The Workshop Matters project sees open workshops as places that make a small but valuable contribution to a more sustainable society, conscious consumption, and upcycling practices. Open workshops offer everyone interested in crafts, DIY, recycling, or home improvement a space to create, repair, and learn, including professionals, hobbyists, and aspiring creatives. Open workshops provide affordable access to machines, tools, and a community to develop skills and realize projects. Our concept is based on the values of sharing and degrowth as essential prerequisites for responsible action.

The project is inspired by our personal and professional experiences and by how crafts, DIY, and sharing influence people's lives and projects in inspiring ways. Over the past ten years, grassroots co-workshop spaces have sprung up in almost every major city throughout Switzerland, almost simultaneously but independently of each other. At the same time, private studios and workshops have also welcomed new users under various conditions.
